Life at Kingston
Early Years Learning Spaces
All of our classrooms are designed to develop students abilities to become inquirers, be in charge of their learning and develop independence. The health and safety of our students is of the utmost importance. All furniture is of the highest quality and safety standards and made from natural materials.
Playgroup
Our playgroup classroom has been designed with our youngest learners in mind. Furniture is the appropriate size for this age group and there is plenty of space for children to move around and explore.
2 Year Old Class
Classrooms for our 2 Year Olds are warm and inviting. A wide range of age appropriate resources are available for the children to access and are updated regularly depending on what Unit the children are covering.
Kindergarten
The layouts of our Kindergarten classrooms are flexible in order to allow teachers to design the best possible learning spaces for their students. In classrooms there are areas for role-play, quiet reading time as well as construction based play.
Common Areas
At Kingston we believe in developing our students into balanced, well-rounded individuals. Therefore we also provide areas where students can develop their skills in the areas of motor development, communication, creativity and love of the arts. The campus is equipped with three outdoor playgrounds as well as an indoor playroom. In our dramatic play room children can engage in role-play and develop their imaginations. We also have a music room that is well equipped with a wide range of musical instruments and this is also where music classes for our Kindergarten and Children Centre students are held.
Primary Learning Spaces
Classrooms
The classrooms throughout Kingston are evolving spaces, in which teachers and students negotiate the best possible learning environments to facilitate learning. No two classrooms are identical, which ensures that the needs of the individual learners inside are met. Many breakout spaces exist around our campuses in order to allow students to work both collaboratively and individually in spaces outside our classrooms.
As the nature of our program has evolved, so have our spaces in order to meet the needs of our learners. You will find the different areas around the school to incorporate flexible seating alternatives for students as well as state of the art furniture, which can be manipulated in order to cater to the type of learning happening at any given time. Staff are encouraged to continue to rethink spaces in order to reflect the inquiry based learning taking place across our community.
Playground
Both our Upper and Lower Primary campuses are equipped with outdoor multi-purpose playgrounds for various uses. Physical Education class is conducted on our playgrounds along with recesses, extra curricular activities and school wide events. When available, teachers make use of these spaces to utilize the larger spaces for learning engagements.
Art Rooms
Our Arts rooms have been designed by our very talented Music and Design & Drama teachers. These rooms are equipped with flexible seating to be able to adapt to the lesson needs of these teachers.
Staff
Our international teaching team is a cornerstone of our programme. Our teachers come from countries such as America, Canada, Australia, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. All class teachers are native speakers of either English or Putonghua. All of our teachers are fully qualified to deliver high quality education to our students. As a school we are fully committed to ongoing professional development and provide opportunities for all our staff to attend IBPYP workshops as well as other relevant professional learning opportunities.
