Primary School
Eliza Wong
Ms. Eliza Wong
Head Principal
Ms. Eliza Wong has been working in education for the last 40 years, and in 1997, she joined the family of Kingston International School as a Head Teacher. She was promoted to Kindergarten Principal in 2001, and by 2008, she took on the additional role of Primary School Principal at Kingston International School. In the latter half of that year, the school board decided to promote Ms. Wong as Head Principal of Kingston's Kindergarten and Primary Schools. From 2009 onwards, she became a Board member of ICHK Secondary, the through-train high school division of Kingston International School.
Ms. Wong was heavily involved in the expansion of Kingston, as the demand for admission spots far exceeded its supply. Seeing the pressing need for expansion, she dedicated tremendous effort towards in. She was rewarded when Kingston opened its Lower Primary campus in 2001 and its Upper Primary campus in 2010 to all more students to join the Kingston family. Regarding learning, Ms. Wong demonstrated great initiative in paving the way for the school's further academic development by receiving training on the IBPYP curriculum before establishing Kingston's Primary School. To prepare herself for this step, she participated in numerous IB workshops. She also visited IB schools in various places such as Switzerland, Australia, Thailand, Shanghai, Beijing, Vietnam, India, and Singapore for academic exchange with the management levels.
As for the linguistic aspect, she emphasises the need for a strong and solid Chinese curriculum that is on par with their English counterpart programme to maintain a bilingual curriculum of the highest calibre across the international school stage in Hong Kong.
John Harper
Mr. John Harper
Upper Primary Principal
John Harper was born and raised in Canada. He arrived in Hong Kong in 1998 and has been at Kingston since 2002.
Starting out as a K3 teacher in our Kindergarten section, John's interest in the IBPYP led him to become an IBPYP Workshop Leader and School Evaluator. These extra qualifications made it a logical move for him to become the KIK PYP Coordinator and, eventually, KIK Head English Teacher. In 2007, John moved into the Deputy Principal / PYP Coordinator position in the Primary Section. In 2014, he was appointed Kingston's Upper Primary Principal.
John is very happy to have been part of the Kingston experience for such an extended period of time. He was teaching at Kingston in the first year that we expanded to include a primary section. He was part of the original IBPYP Authorization process and has participated in every KIS IB Evaluation since. During his tenure at Kingston, he has had the privilege of collaboratively developing the primary school curriculum and learning approaches with a talented and diverse team and has valued the experiences involved in participating in the growth of the most distinguished small school in Hong Kong. Currently, as Upper Primary Principal, John is responsible for student-wellbeing, recruiting high-quality teachers, overseeing curriculum, planning essential professional development, contributing to school development and much more.
John has a Bachelor of Arts (English) from Carleton University in Ottawa, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Sunderland (UK), and a Master of Education Management from the University of Bristol (UK).
John is a proud father and he and his wife have chosen to send their young son to Kingston. They are most drawn to Kingston for the bilingual approach, the reassurance and personal attention that comes from the small school experience, the overall quality of the teaching and learning, and the deep organizational knowledge that comes with being the first school in Hong Kong to be authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
Emily Flach
Ms. Emily Flach
Lower Primary Principal , Lower and Upper Primary PYP Coordinator
Emily Flach is originally from Canada, where she completed her Bachelor in Psychology and Certificates in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education before joining the teaching profession as an Early Years Individual Needs teacher. As a devoted life-long learner Emily has since gone on to earn her PGCE-Special Needs, a Masters of Educational Studies, a Masters of Educational Management and a PGCE in Educational Research. She has also trained to be an IB-PYP workshop leader and programme evaluator.
Emily joined the Kingston team in 2004 and has held a number of roles at the school, including being the proud parent of two Kingston graduates.
Emily is passionate about education and is fascinated with the amazing capacity and enthusiasm students have for learning. She strongly believes that building collaborative relationships and community in a school are paramount in school development and serve as the foundation for excellence. Emily takes immense pride in being a member of the Kingston community.
Fenwick Tong
Dr. Fenwick Tong
Vice Principal and Head of Chinese for Upper and Lower Primary
Dr. Tong was born in mainland China and has been passionate about learning Chinese Language from a young age. She was educated in Putonghua and graduated from high school in China. With a dream of devoting herself to education, Dr. Tong graduated from the Education University of Hong Kong in 2004 with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Primary) and was subsequently registered as a teacher with the EDB. Her first posting was as a class teacher here at KIS, the first authorised IBPYP school in Hong Kong.
In 2008, Dr. Tong completed her Masters of Education (Curriculum and Teaching Methodology) from Beijing Language And Culture University. In the same year, she was appointed as Kingston’s Chinese Head Teacher, marking the beginning of a successful collaboration with the rest of the Chinese team to design an IBPYP-based Chinese curriculum for the school. Dr. Tong has also led the team in developing Kingston’s Chinese Language Inquiry Book Sets, the Lower Primary Chinese Idiom Book, the Upper Primary Chinese Idiom Book and Couplet Poems Book Set, each of which is aimed at supplementing the highest quality Chinese language education for KIS students.
In August 2016, Dr. Tong was appointed Vice Principal, and became more widely and deeply involved in Kingston’s educational administration work - assisting the principals in hiring quality Chinese teachers, continuously developing the Chinese curriculum and promoting the school’s development and professional development of the Chinese teachers.
In 2021, Dr. Tong successfully completed her Doctoral programme in Education: Language Education (Chinese) at the Education University of Hong Kong, earning the distinguished title of Doctor of Education.

Michelle Chu
Ms. Michelle Chu
KCC & KIK English Head Teacher and PYP Coordinator
Michelle Chu is originally from New Zealand and came to Hong Kong in 2002 where she began her career in Early Childhood Education. Michelle worked in various kindergartens in Hong Kong before coming to Kingston in 2010 as a class teacher and later moving into the role of PYP Coordinator and English Head Teacher. Michelle has led Kingston through three IB Evaluations and is looking forward to continuing to grow and develop our programme.
Michelle has a Bachelor of Arts from Massey University in New Zealand, a Qualified Kindergarten Teacher Qualification from The Education University of Hong Kong and a PGDE in Early Childhood Education from The University of Hong Kong. Most recently she completed her Kindergarten Principal's Certificate from Hong Kong Baptist University.
Michelle is also a Kingston parent, with children currently studying at Kingston and ICHK Secondary. Michelle has chosen Kingston to ensure that her children develop both their English and Chinese language skills and are able to be fully bilingual. The IB PYP programme and small class sizes offered by Kingston are also something that Michelle believes will offer the best opportunities for her children to become well rounded, internationally minded individuals.
Irene Leung
Ms. Irene Leung
KIK Chinese Head Teacher
Ms. Leung is from Hong Kong. She has been working in the Early Child Education sector since she graduated from The Education University of Hong Kong and she has a deep understanding of Hong Kong's local culture and education system.
Ms. Leung joined Kingston in 2002 as the Chinese Head Teacher in KIK. Since then, she has been devoting herself to studying IBPYP. She has participated in different workshops, assisted in improving the Chinese curriculum in KIK, and worked together with her team to implement the best bilingual Unit teaching in order to provide meaningful, interesting, and challenging experiences to children. She values the inclusion of various cultures and diverse learning experiences. She also emphasizes each child's interest. She appreciates their uniqueness and encourages them to reflect on their learning, and provides support for cultivating students' international mindedness.
Ms. Leung has a son in his twenties. As a mother, she believes that the people who know their children best are their parents. A child's world consists of family and school, so she attaches great importance to home-school cooperation. Kingston is a school that appreciates the uniqueness of children. With the sincere cooperation between home and school, children will be able to fully realize their potential. This is exactly her wish for education!
Freda Kwok
Ms. Freda Kwok
KCC Chinese Head Teacher
Ms. Kwok was born and grew up in Hong Kong. Since she was young, her dream was to become a teacher. She became a Kindergarten teacher after secondary school, affirming that her life mission was to devote herself to early childhood education.
Ms. Kwok received early childhood education training in Hong Kong Polytechnic Institute (now renamed as Hong Kong Polytechnic University) in 1987 and went on to become an early childhood educator. In 1989 Ms. Kwok got married and planned to have children. Therefore, she temporarily left her job in order to take care of her family.
After her children entered primary school, Ms. Kwok returned to the education sector and was employed by Kingston Children Centre. She later pursued continuing education at the Hong Kong Baptist University and was registered as Head Teacher in the Social Welfare Department in 2000. In 2005, Ms. Kwok graduated from The Hong Kong Institute of Education (now renamed The Education University of Hong Kong) and obtained the Certificate in Kindergarten Education.
Ms. Kwok's third child was born in 2006. He entered Kingston Playgroup in 2007 and graduated from Kingston International School in 2017. During this time, Ms. Kwok also took on the role of a Kingston parent.
It is Ms. Kwok's inspiration to see the children entering the campus with happy, innocent faces everyday. Children's first teachers are their family and then they begin their journey here at Kingston. She is glad to witness the growth and development of the children at Kingston.
